THE CAPTAIN
Capt. Gauthier joined the Merchant Marine in 1972, serving throughout North and South America upon tankers and general cargo vessels. He has served as a civilian upon a British Navy support ship for a world tour and in the Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers. He retired from the Merchant Marine as a Senior Master of the CFAV Firebrand, Canadian Navy, Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada. He has been delivering yachts since 1972. He has maneuvered vessels of all sizes in close quarters including using tugs for berthing ships in harbor. He has thousands of hours of experience conning vessels in severe weather conditions including hurricanes, and in reduced visibility due to fog and dark hours using electronic equipment including exhaustive use of radar. He is an occasional contributor to yachting magazines and has won the Western Magazine Writers Award for an article on climatology/meteorology for the yachtsman. His working knowledge of French and Spanish helps save time and money when clearing customs, fueling and provisioning. |

Stan was the Captain of my 60' Chris Craft Roamer for six months and 3500 miles from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Vancouver Island, up the inside passage and north to Ketchikan, Alaska. From there we headed south going back down the inside passage returning to Victoria and on to San Francisco.
During the entire trip, Stan showed himself to be an extremely capable captain taking no undo risk and was extremely capable. He maneuvered the boat in and out of very tight marinas and in fact at Friday Harbour Marina, the marina operator commented to me on the excellent job that he did manuvring the yacht in such tight quarters. Stan is very easy to get along with. He performed his duties excellently and is extremely capable.
My parents were aboard the boat for the six months that Stan captained the yacht and they too had only the highest praises for Stan and he became a friend as well as a captain.
Therefore, at this time without hesitation , I highly recommend him as a yacht captain. If you need any further specific information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This is a letter of recommendation for Captain Stan Gauthier. He delivered our 43 foot sportfishing vessel from San Francisco to Victoria, British Columbia in July 2006. It was a pleasure to work with Stan and his wife Rose. The confidence and knowledge that Stan brought to this delivery gave me peace of mind. I had never let anyone else captain or run my boat so this was a new experience for me. He intelligently watched the weather to avoid beating or damaging the boat. And he made excellent time when the weather was favorable. The boat was super clean and in top condition when we met them in Victoria and we were very pleased with this experience. I recommend Captain Stan Gauthier without any reservation.
Robert H. Globus, Incline, Nevada
We contracted Captain Gauthier to deliver our Perry 47 from San Francisco to Sidney, British Columbia, with myself aboard and two other crew.
We found Capt. Gauthier to be capable in terms of voyage planning and execution, boat handling and navigation. The voyage was completed in good time and without damage; in fact, the boat was in better condition upon completion of the voyage, thanks to Capt. Gauthier.
We understand Capt. Gauthier has extensive knowledge and experience throughout the Atlantic and Pacific and having seen him at work, we have no hesitation in recommending him for either delivery or a cruise. We wish him and his clients good sailing.

Glen Fagerlin, Alameda, CaliforniaI just wanted to thank you for the professional and expeditious delivery of my catamaran from Cabo to San Francisco. I was pleased with the overall effort including your experience, professionalism and judgment. The trip north is demandng of the boat and crew. You have the experience and judgment to pick the right weather windows and passage strategy to minimize wear and tear on the boat and complete a successful delivery. We worked well together to resolve the inevitable glitches that occurred with equipment and your experience worked well with customs and overall passage making strategy. I expect that it is a problem for you when you have to justify a layover and expenses waiting for weather windows. From our experience I am convinced that the extra time was well worth the cost in terms of a less stressful delivery for the boat, crew and overall time. The delivery was quick, the boat performed reasonably well and the job was completed to my satisfaction.
If you want to refer any prospective customers to me for a reference, I would be happy to provide a favorable recommendation.

Robert M. Arbuthnot, Palm Springs, Ca.Dear Capt. Guathier
Thank you for recommending Capt. Dan Widmer for piloting my Gulfstar 44 motor yacht from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The seas were particularly rough and Capt. Widmer demonstrated exemplary skill in handling the vessel. Further, he thoroughly inspected the boat beforehand and was able to make repairs himself. In fact, I learned more about the mechanics of the vessel from him than from anyone else. I would strongly recommend this very personable and highly competent captain to anyone. Thanks again.

Thank you for everything. You made the trip so much more than a boat trip. We'll never forget your kindness and humour. Best of luck.
Patti and James Montgomery, Edmonds, WashingtonIt's been just wonderful meeting you and travelling with you this week. Hearing the stories of where you've worked and lived. You and Andre work so well together and compliment each other in your personalities and such. The whole trip has been very special because of you two. We'll never forget you, that's for sure.
Your natures are to give and serve and make your people feel comfortable and you both have done just that. Thank you for everything.
Ann and Jim Elliot, San Diego, Ca.
We all had a marvelous time. You took such good care of us and gave us many happy memories. It was just the best vacation. Everyone was delighted with our cruise. I would like to go for a longer trip next time.

Francis G. Angel, San Diego, Ca.
I never thought a trip of this nature could be as pleasant. Your care and conscientiousness regarding safety and comfort were a delight and I will always remember the fun. Thanks.
Nancy and Howard Altman, San Francisco
Howard and I would like to say what a relief it is to have our boat in Anacortes. Thank you to you and your wonderful crew who made it all possible. Both Doug and Andy were extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with. They not only delivered our boat on time, but did minor repairs, washed her and polished all the interior teak.
I would highly recommend you and your crew to anyone thinking of offshore delivery.
THE CREWCHIEF MECHANIC ANDY LAPIERRE
Mr. Lapierre is fortunate to possess just about all the mechanical skills needed at sea. In addition to being a licensed diesel mechanic, he is qualified in marine electrical and refrigeration. These skills make him an extremely valuable addition to any crew. An accomplished chef, Mr. Lapierre has been recognized with considerable praise for his ability to bring a wide array of ingredients together to their best advantage.
FIRST MATE DOUG ORRISSDoug is a former fire captain. He is an avid sailor and qualified by the power squadron for offshore navigation and boat handling. With a background in athletics, Doug is the ultimate unflappable sailor and knowledgeable all-around navigator/seaman. Doug has made many trips with Captain Gauthier up and down the West Coast over the years and now has begun skippering deliveries in his own right, including delivering a new Mainship 39' from San Francisco to Seattle, then being re-hired to take the boat back to San Francisconot a bad recommendation!

"In moving our Ericson 32 from San Francisco to Portland, I needed professional help. Upon calling several yacht delivery services listed in Latitude 38, I was impressed with the manner and information received from Capt. Stan Gauthier. Doug Orriss, who works with Captain Gauthier, was of invaluable service as well as being of good character and easy to get along with. A high recommendation is given to these two individuals.
